For Sale: 1972 Chevrolet Corvette in SPRINGBORO, Ohio for sale in Springboro, OH
Vehicle Description 1972 Corvette LT-1 with its original factory-applied code 973 Mille Miglia lacquer paint, and original code 407 factory-installed red interior.
It is a 3-time NCRS Top Flight car and a 2-Star Preservation Award winner through the NCRS at the Mobile national convention in July 2022.
The Star Award is awarded to original cars only, and represents the best of the preservation, or survivor cars.
It takes a score of 80 to achieve the Star in any of 4 areas; this car achieved a score of 98 in both interior and exterior.
And it is still beautiful- albeit a couple of playground boo boos from over the years, with the accurate red tone of its original paint and an accurate lacquer shine, and without the checking and cracking I'm used to seeing on original paint cars.
This should put to rest concerns about replacement body panels, how many repaints it has had etc.
The interior - also beautiful - is just as original, and still wows the judges.
These classics are only original once.
The drivetrain is also original from the factory-stamped CKY, matching number LT-1 engine that still carries with it its original List 6239 780 cfm Holley carburetor, starter and alternator; to the Muncie 4-speed transmission with the factory-stamped matching number VIN derivative, to the AB stamped differential indicating 3.
70 axle ratio.
In 50 years, this car has only amassed 48600 miles.
Despite the 50 years, the frame, birdcage, chassis bits etc.
are all in excellent condition.
This car has not been restored and is still in Top Flight condition.
Provenance goes back to the original selling dealer; King Chevrolet in Wheeling WV in June 1972, correspondence from the original owner, the second and third owners named with records and paperwork from the third owner (of 39 years ownership) whom I purchased the car from five years ago.
I hold the original owners manual, the factory Warranty Booklet with Protect-O-Plate, Emission Control System Brochure, Wheel Trim Ring instructions, seat shims in the original drawstring bag etc.
Awards under my ownership began with a Chapter Top Flight Award in March, 2018; A Regional Top Flight Award / Bowtie Sign-Off in April 2019; -Enter Covid-; Another Regional Top Flight Award / Bowtie Sign-Off in April 2022; and a 2-Star Preservation Award at the NCRS national convention in July 2022.
Why 1972? It's the Last of the high-revving, solid-lifter, large dual-feed 780 Holley carbureted small block.
Last of front and rear chrome bumpers.
Last of the bright egg crate grille and side fender grilles.
Last of the removable rear window to compliment the removable T-tops for an open cockpit coupe.
FIRST for a VIN digit that indicates the factory-installed engine.
This means no fakes.
Take a look at this one, especially you purists.
I know you've seen the restored cars - with overdone bodywork, gallons of clear urethane blocked and buffed 100 times, mis-matched colored interiors ( especially the reds and the blues ) with the addition of restoration parts, and less-than-forthcoming owners who don't tell you where the car has been and what it once looked like - much less the parts they had to replace to make it whole.
As I said, these cars are only original once.
I've seen many, many Corvettes in my profession.
Restoration brings back a tattered, wrecked and rusty classic to the level where it scores well on the judging field - which is a good thing since it has saved a classic Corvette.
But how about that 50-year old, original car that scored well amongst the restored ones.
Special.
And hard to find.
